Job Purpose

We are seeking a practical and experienced specialist in cable handling, end preparation and testing specifically for offshore renewable energy Medium and High Voltage (MV/HV) Cables (66V+). This role is responsible for outlining the technical requirements necessary to terminate and test power cables, including manufacturing rules, processes and procedures for safe handling and testing. The job holder may also be required to support the manufacturing of power cable and other subsea products such as Umbilicals and Flying Leads (training will be provided).

Job Description

Creating and implementing processes to improve and maintain efficiency in cable handling, end preparation and testing. Creation, verification, and approval of project manufacturing specifications used to handle and test HV power cables. Owner and creator of the technical governance (adhering to internal and international standards) relating to HV power cable handling and testing rules and policies. Owner and creator of standard operating procedures used by Operators when handling, preparing or testing cables products, where necessary. Specifying safe termination and testing requirements aligned to internal TFMC standards and the relevant IEC and EN cable standards and CIGRE technical policies. Testing shall include but not limited to conductor resistance, partial discharge, high voltage AC, insulation resistance and time domain reflectometry. Supporting risk assessments of all testing activity on site relating to Power Cables. Working closely with the CAPEX and Industrialisation teams to help support the development and continuous improvement of HV Cable manufacture at the Newcastle site. Close collaboration with Umbilical, Cable and Hardware Design Engineers to ensure lessons learned from manufacturing, end termination and preparation of HV Cables feedback into the bid, design and procurement processes. Support the proposal process to ensure the bids are technically compliant and risks are identified and mitigated where possible. Attend the relevant design and risk reviews which take place throughout a product life cycle. Working closely with Production and Application teams to ensure instructions are well understood, gain feedback, and foster a two-way working relationship to deliver continuous improvement. Through self-development and CPD, maintain an up-to-date knowledge and expertise on relevant cable manufactuirng industry best practices and technology.

You are meant for this job if:

Comprehensive practical, hands on experience and understanding of cable testing, test equipment, cable end preparation and the relevant safety requirement surrounding testing of HV cables or equivalent technology. Experience of managing a Testing House or Test Facility would be beneficial. An understanding of IEC cable standards and CIGRE technical policies, its suite of technical specifications and supporting documentation. Working experience of manufacturing HV cables, or cable like products would be beneficial. Good verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft office tool such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowePoint. Experience delivering against challenging schedules in a project management environment is essential.
