About the Role  

Step into a pivotal role at the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) as a Global Roving Safety and Security Manager. You’ll provide essential health, safety, and security support, advice, and training to NRC operations worldwide. Often deployed with our dynamic Emergency Response Team, you’ll be at the forefront of humanitarian efforts, enabling the delivery of lifesaving assistance to those who need it most. Reporting to the Global Expert HSS Adviser Strategy and Planning, you will support negotiating principled access, increase the preparedness and well-being of our teams, and carry out contextual analyses to support conflict-sensitivity in our humanitarian response, to name a few of the exciting aspects of this role.

What You Will Do  

Implement Initiatives: Lead key tasks on behalf of the Global Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) Section during deployments.  Fill Critical Gaps: Assume roles and responsibilities of vacant HSS positions at NRC offices globally.  Emergency Response: Provide HSS and access support to emergency responses, scoping and startup missions.  Training and Development: Deliver HSS training and support the Global HSS Training Unit.  Risk Assessment: Conduct HSS risk assessments and develop context-specific operating procedures and contingency plans.  Audits and Fact-Finding: Deploy to conduct HSS audits and fact-finding missions.  Crisis Support: Provide support to Crisis Management Teams.

What You Will Bring  

Extensive Experience: Minimum 3 years of managerial experience, including roles such as Area Manager or Country Director in humanitarian/recovery contexts with a focus on safety and security.  Safety and Security Expertise: Proven and relevant experience in safety and security work, preferably within the NGO sector.  Complex Contexts: Previous experience in high-risk environments.  Administrative Skills: Experience in administration and budgeting.  Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and build the capacity of teams.  Training Proficiency: Proven ability to deliver humanitarian Safety, Security and Access-related training. 

What We Offer  

Duty Station: Home-based with flexible assignments based on assessments and start-ups. 

Contract: Full-time, 2-year contract. 

Travel: 75% travel to various global locations.
