Associate Professor in Business Economics

Arbeidsgiver Norges Handelshøyskole (NHH) Stillingstittel Associate Professor in Business Economics Frist 19.03.2025 Ansettelsesform Fast

About the position

NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Business Economics at the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law. The Department offers a stimulating research environment with internationally renowned research groups in a wide range of fields, providing high quality research and teaching. For more information, please visit our webpage.

The Department has an active research environment and a broad international research network in Financial Accounting and Auditing. According to the BYU Accounting Research Rankings, NHH is ranked highest among the Nordic business schools in accounting research.

We are seeking ambitious candidates early in their careers who can document relevant research and teaching capabilities. Applicants must have a PhD degree from a recognised business school or university and must demonstrate high quality in both research and teaching. The candidate's PhD degree should concentrate on business economics and be obtained from an internationally accredited institution within the recent 5 years. The research area and methodology demonstrated for this position should primarily focus on business economics using experimental methods, particularly how individuals and organisations make ethical decisions and how economic, cognitive, and social factors shape the behavior of accountants/auditors, employees, and managers. Qualified candidates will normally have at least two publications in AJG3/Norwegian level 2 journals or above, as well as an active research program with the potential for publication in top academic journals. International research experience and collaboration are essential. The position involves teaching on average two courses per year as well as some graduate supervision. The department is currently in particular need of teaching capacity in the Business Economics field.

In addition to research activities, the position involves teaching, supervision, and a certain amount of administrative work. Candidates should have teaching and master thesis supervising experience and formal pedagogical training and must demonstrate good teaching skills and course administration. At NHH we value effective communication and expect our permanent faculty to have good language skills in both Norwegian and English. Since some of the teaching will be in Norwegian, the candidate must be fluent in either Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish at a minimum of the B2 level.

Teaching quality and the ability to engage large classes are an important criterion. This will be evaluated through documented evidence of previous teaching experience in a recognised academic program, interaction with students and student evaluations. Candidates who cannot document at least 200 hours of pedagogical coursework when hired must complete the NHH program on basic pedagogical competence within two years.

NHH offers:

  • A competitive salary that is negotiable within the state salary scale. The salary will depend both on the level of competence and length of service.
  • A favorable membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) and good welfare benefits such as parental leave.
  • Research funds for traveling and conference participation and a bonus system for publication in top international journals (up to NOK 200 000).
  • Opportunity to apply for research leave. The period of entitlement for six months' research leave is six semesters and twelve semesters for a year's leave.

Note that public health care, public schooling for children, and most other public services are free in Norway. The city of Bergen has a mild, coastal climate and offers rich opportunities for culture and outdoor activities - as well as a family-friendly environment.

General information

The appointee must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time.

The state labour force shall reflect the diversity of Norwegian society to the greatest extent possible. People with immigrant backgrounds and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply for the position.

In the assessment of applicants, international experience and qualifications will be emphasised. For the sake of gender balance at NHH, female applicants will be given preference in the event of equivalent qualifications among candidates.

The application should contain details of the applicant's scientific and pedagogical education and work experience. In addition, the applicant should provide an overview and assessment of the applicants' teaching experience and documentation of teaching quality. The application and enclosed documentation, including a CV, a list of publications, certificates with grades, a teaching portfolio, and any other relevant documentation should be submitted through the Jobbnorge online portal. A maximum of ten publications and working papers should also be attached for evaluation.

Two or three reference letters (in PDF format) must be submitted by the referees directly to NHH at hr-references@nhh.no, within 19 March 2025.

Inquiries about the position should be directed to Head of Department, Finn Kinserdal, at finn.kinserdal@nhh.no.
