Postdoctoral Fellow in Privacy-Enhancing Cryptography

Simula UiB (https://simula-uib.com) is a research institute in Cryptography and Information Theory located in Bergen, Norway. The Department of Cryptography is currently looking for an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral researcher position in privacy-enhancing cryptography. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Martijn Stam and Håvard Raddum.

This research topic will influence how data can be shared and processed in the future, with major ramifications for the use of AI and machine learning. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to explore and contribute to groundbreaking research questions, for instance focusing on its efficient implementation and deployment. While specific research questions will be discussed with the successful applicant, they may include techniques such as fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), multi-party computation (MPC) and zero-knowledge protocols (ZK). This is not just an opportunity to develop and shape your own research project, but also to help shape the future of cryptography and privacy.
Simula UiB currently has 11 early career researchers working on a range of research problems in cryptography and information theory. Candidate ProfileWe are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field for working on the emerging field of privacy-enhancing cryptography. The successful candidate will have a strong track record demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals and international conferences, experience with privacy-enhancing cryptography as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently. Moreover, a good knowledge of machine learning or cryptographic engineering is an advantage. You must be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate your potential for conducting original research in privacy-enhancing cryptography. We expect the candidate to have good communication and collaboration skills and be fluent in English, both in academic writing and speaking. Finally, the successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills and be willing and able to contribute to Simula UiB's working environment.
