We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.
About the role
The Power Systems Analysis Nordics Team in DNV Energy Systems is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer.
The ideal candidate should be driven by the challenges of the energy transition and the future power grid, combined with experience in delivering services in power system analysis and system studies. The focus will be on the integration of renewable generation and other power system devices such as energy storage, HVDC, and FACTS devices. Experience with grid code compliance simulations and testing, as well as protection coordination and selectivity planning, would be an advantage.
You will be part of the Power System Analysis (PSA) Nordics team of DNV Energy Systems in the Northern Europe region. The main location will be the DNV office in Gothenburg, Sweden. Other possible offices include Malmö and Solna in Sweden, and Oslo in Norway.
The PSA Nordics team is part of the Power Grid Systems and Technology Northern Europe department, consisting of around 100 highly motivated engineers and consultants who support transmission and distribution system operators, industrial clients, and renewable plant owners and developers with specialized and innovative consultancy advisory services in the area of power systems and technology.
You will be involved in national and international projects within and beyond the borders of the Nordics and Northern Europe region. The projects are often cross-functional, where we collaborate with other specialized teams within DNV, and sometimes with external partners. As a Senior Engineer, you will often take the role of Project Manager, or work as a technical expert in projects, delivering your own technical work or coaching younger colleagues and reviewing their work. You will also interact with customers, help identify market opportunities, develop our existing services, and establish new services. Management and leadership experience is also seen as a positive.
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Perform power system studies with modeling and analysis of the behavior of power systems and electric grids.
- Perform detailed analysis and investigations related to specific topics, such as:
- Grid code compliance
- Fault clearance, protection, and control
- Voltage control, frequency control, and grid stability
- Power quality and reliability
- Grid integration of renewables, conventional generation, storage, and power electronics (e.g., HVDC, FACTS), etc.
- Take the lead in project and proposal work, as project/bid manager or as a technical lead.
- Prepare, review, or otherwise contribute to high-quality technical reports and commercial proposals.
- Report the findings of your and your team's work in high-quality technical reports and presentations for customers, in professional networks, and to colleagues.
At DNV, we provide a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers you to thrive and make an impact. Here's what you can look forward to:
- A challenging and varied job in a dynamic and international environment, as part of a world-leading technical advisory company with a global reach and more than 15 000 employees around the world.
- Being a central part of a professional team of committed colleagues who value teamwork and support.
- Flexible working hours and focus on work/life balance.
- Plenty of opportunities for personal growth: based on your experience, we will create a plan together with you for your personal development for the next few years. We will do this through our 70-20-10 philosophy: 70% learning on the job, 20% coaching and 10% training.
- The opportunity to make a difference by actively contributing to shaping the energy transition.
About you
You have:
- MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
- At least 5 or more years of relevant experience, ideally within consultancy.
- Knowledge and understanding of core technical areas: Power System Studies, Grid Integration of Generation, Grid Code Compliance, Testing & Modelling of Production Units, and/or Protection and Control.
- Experience with modeling and simulation of electrical components and networks with tools such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, Neplan, or similar.
- Verbal and written communication skills in English, and ideally Swedish.
- Interest and proven ability in leading projects and interacting with customers and in professional networks.
- Ability to organize project work, support your project team to deliver, and create a good team spirit. Management and leadership experience is also seen as a positive.
- Structured way of working with high precision.
- High level of creativity, flexibility and initiative.
