We are looking for a Data Science Lead – Credit Risk (m/f/d)

(unlimited, full-time) Join our team at our location in Verl, Berlin, Oslo, Baden-Baden or Amsterdam – flexible working conditions available.

As the Data Science Lead – Credit Risk, you will guide our international and cross-functional team of data scientists and risk experts. The team's main role is to create Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) models that prevent fraud and solvency risks. You will assume responsibility for the AI/ML data product in our risk decisioning product – from Product Ownership to implementation and operation of the AI/ML models. You will play a crucial role in advancing our data and AI strategy and developing our team to meet their professional growth goals. Collaborating closely with various business and functional units, you will translate business needs into data and AI products, enabling Riverty's next-level risk management.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers in developing innovative data products and ML models, particularly in the credit risk domain.
  • Act as the product owner for the "Risk Data Science" cross-functional team, driving significant advancements in AI and machine learning models for credit risk management.
  • Provide methodological leadership in data science and machine learning, as well as domain leadership in credit risk modeling through AI.
  • Closely collaborate with other risk teams, such as risk product and risk steering, as well as with product, commercial, and engineering teams to identify and leverage AI opportunities, delivering high-quality data and AI products that prevent credit losses.
  • Manage team priorities, resources, and deadlines to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging data science trends and technologies, serving as a data ambassador within the company.
  • The role reports into the Data & Analytics function, with strong ties to the Credit Risk function.

What you should bring:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in data science and machine learning technologies.
  • Proven experience in a credit risk management environment.
  • Proficiency in handling large datasets within a distributed computing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing teams of machine learning and risk professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure is a plus.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in German, Norwegian, or Dutch is advantageous.
  • Experience in the financial industry, particularly in Buy-Now-Pay-Later and risk & fraud management.
