Principal Scientist – Genetics

To support our growing team, we are looking for a highly motivated genetics expert with a passion for microbial engineering and synthetic biology to develop and optimize prokaryotic-based production systems.
Main Responsibilities:
- Act as the in-house genetics expert, driving project strategy with cutting-edge genetic tools and methodologies to ensure robust strain engineering and microbial optimization.
- Work independently and collaboratively as a core member of an interdisciplinary team developing innovative biotechnological processes.
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of molecular and microbiological experiments, focusing on strain engineering and bioprocess optimization.
- Develop and implement advanced molecular and biological techniques, including CRISPR-based genome editing and other state-of-the-art tools.
- Engineer and enhance microbial strains with optimized physiology to maximize production of sustainable products and high-value chemicals.
- Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay informed about the latest scientific innovations and industry developments and incorporate them into our projects.
- Support the scale-up of laboratory processes to pilot and industrial-scale systems, ensuring seamless technology transfer.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering skill development and collaboration within the team.
About You
Experience:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in molecular biology, microbiology, synthetic biology, or related fields.
- Proven track record in strain engineering, synthetic biology, and microbial biotechnology.
Scientific Skills:
- Expert in DNA design and editing tools (e.g., SnapGene, Benchling), and modern cloning techniques (e.g., Golden Gate, Gibson assembly).
- Expert with CRISPR technologies.
- Expert in molecular cloning, genome editing, and metabolic engineering is essential.
- Knowledge of microbial physiology, metabolic pathways, and industrial applications is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with high-throughput screening methods and bioinformatics tools is advantageous.
Soft Skills:
- Passionate about sustainability, synthetic biology, and biotechnology.
- Able to drive projects from concept to application with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to independently plan and execute experiments.
- Adaptable, creative, and detail-oriented with a willingness to learn and implement new techniques.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to thrive in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment.
- Fluent in English; additional language skills are a plus.
Additional:
- Need to be eligible to NATO clearance.
