English Linguistics PhD Research Fellow

The University of Bergen invites applications for a PhD position in English linguistics, commencing from August 2025. The position is for a fixed-term period of four years.
This is an excellent opportunity to conduct research and gain valuable experience in the field of English linguistics. The successful candidate will be part of the Department of Foreign Languages, which spans nine different languages and offers a stimulating and professionally challenging work environment.
The PhD project must emphasize the use of empirical data, and its argumentation should be quantitatively oriented. The project should be anchored in and/or informed by linguistic theory.
As a PhD candidate, you must participate in the Faculty of Humanities' PhD program. The PhD programme comprises a training component corresponding to 30 ECTS.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct original research in the field of English linguistics.
- Write and defend a doctoral dissertation.
- Participate in the Faculty of Humanities' PhD program.
We offer a gross annual salary of NOK 560 000 for a full-time position (code 1017) and enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
About the DepartmentThe Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen is a leading institution in the field of foreign languages and linguistics. We offer a dynamic and supportive work environment with a strong focus on research and teaching.
The Department has around 60 permanent academic staff members, along with approximately 20 PhD and postdoctoral fellows, and eleven administrative members of staff.
Our research groups cover a wide range of areas, including language/linguistics, literature, history/cultural studies, and didactics.
