Company: MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Ocean Modeler to join our team at MPOWIR. As a Senior Ocean Modeler, you will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining regional ocean numerical simulations for use in climate downscaling and ecosystem modeling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement regional ocean numerical simulations using NEMO
  • Collaborate with the research group Oceanography and Climate to strengthen the model group
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team to achieve project goals
  • Provide thorough overview of past ocean numerical modeling experience
  • Develop and maintain programming skills and experience with Fortran, MATLAB, Python, or similar
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system
  • Experience with coupling ocean models with marine ecological applications is an advantage

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in oceanography or related field
  • Proven track record and experience within ocean modeling
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Programming skills and experience with Fortran, MATLAB, Python, or similar
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system
  • Experience with NEMO and coupling ocean models with marine ecological applications is an advantage
