We are seeking a highly skilled Wetland Ecosystem Manager to join our team at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). As a key member of the Central Coast Wetlands Group, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate Resilience Regional Challenge (CRRC) projects.

About the Position:

The Wetland Ecosystem Manager will be responsible for assisting with the "Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Regional Monitoring" project, which aims to implement living shoreline projects on state park lands in the project area. You will work closely with staff at the Central Coast Wetlands Group to plan and execute these projects, ensuring effective climate-driven events management and habitat monitoring.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project Implementation:
    • Collaborate with staff at the Central Coast Wetlands Group on implementing living shoreline projects on state park lands in the project area.
  • Field Surveys:
    • Conduct field surveys of topography, landscape context, hydrology, physical structure, biotic structure, and human- and climate-induced stressors.
    • Collect data on climate-driven events such as wildfires, river floods, sea level rise, and storm surge.
  • Data Management:
    • Organize data for quality assurance verification and sharing with statewide and national datasets.
    • Assist with geographic information system analyses of habitat condition and flood risk reduction.
    • Assist with overall data analysis and the creation of integrated regional reports.

You will also be responsible for compiling project-level monitoring data collected by partner organizations, coordinating the identification, compilation, sharing, and analysis of social and economic information collected by local and regional agencies and municipalities to assess adaptation project performance, collecting standardized project-level data to document measurable risk reduction outcomes, and analyzing and reporting on the project-specific and regional scale implications of these projects to support ongoing climate resiliency action.

Responsibilities:

In addition to your primary responsibilities, you will also be expected to:

  • Participate in project planning and coordination meetings with staff at the Central Coast Wetlands Group.
  • Develop and maintain data management systems to ensure accurate and efficient data collection and analysis.
  • Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including local agencies, partner organizations, and NOAA staff.
