Oslo, Oslo County, Norway University of Oslo Full time

About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the University of Oslo. The successful candidate will be involved in an exciting research project focused on functional neurological disorder (FND), also known as conversion disorder.

Background

FND is a common, disabling, and undertreated condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Despite its prevalence, the pathophysiology of FND remains poorly understood, and there is a significant need for new insights into its causes and consequences.

Research Objectives

The overall goals of this project are to provide new insights into the roles of the cerebral cortex and its connectivity with the thalamus in FND. We will achieve this by including functional and structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) data, as well as clinical variables from 80 individuals with FND. These will be compared with already collected data from healthy controls, patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and individuals with multiple sclerosis.

Methodology

The patients with FND will undergo MRI at baseline, whereas clinical characterization will be performed at baseline and at follow-up after six months of standard clinical care. The successful candidate will focus on analyses of neuroimaging data and/or clinical aspects of the study.

Requirements

Applicants should either have experience with analysis of MRI or EEG data or clinical experience from neurology or psychiatry.

Benefits

This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a talented team of researchers and clinicians at the University of Oslo. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment, as well as opportunities for professional development and networking within the field.
