At the University of Bergen, we are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our interdisciplinary research group, SEFAS. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of novel methods and digital tools to identify that a person with dementia is at the end of life, aimed to understand underlying pain and distressing symptoms in people who are no longer able to explain their suffering.

You will work closely with clinicians, researchers, engineers, PhD students, statisticians, and user-representatives to conduct a trial, develop dynamic and knowledge-driven intelligent models, and design new outcome measures for pain and behavioral and psychological symptoms in dementia.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in computer science, systems engineering, cybernetics, applied mathematics or another relevant degree at the same level, with specialization in bioinformatics, machine learning/artificial intelligence, simulation/visualization, dynamic systems, or signal processing.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of novel methods and digital tools
  • Work closely with clinicians, researchers, engineers, PhD students, statisticians, and user-representatives
  • Develop dynamic and knowledge-driven intelligent models
  • Design new outcome measures for pain and behavioral and psychological symptoms in dementia

Qualifications and Personal Qualities:

  • A Norwegian PhD or equivalent degree within computer science, systems engineering, cybernetics, applied mathematics or another relevant degree at the same level
  • Specialization in bioinformatics, machine learning/artificial intelligence, simulation/visualization, dynamic systems, or signal processing
  • Good programming skills, good general knowledge of algorithms, numerical methods, signal processing and dynamic system modeling
  • Experience from or formal training within analysis and processing of large data sets, signal processing or programming
  • Prior experience within medical and biological applications
  • Previous experience with sensor technology

About the Position:

The position of Postdoctoral Research Scientist is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. You cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution.
