Position Overview
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute is seeking a highly skilled Researcher/Scientific Programmer to join their Ocean and Ice Division in Oslo. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the operation, development, and maintenance of the operational Arctic ocean model for the Copernicus Arctic Marine Forecasting Center (ARC-MFC).
Key Responsibilities
- Operationalize model upgrades and develop new features within the ARC-MFC model system.
- Collaborate closely with regional modeling system developers to downscale and evaluate ensemble prediction systems.
- Work efficiently in a team environment and contribute to the development of numerical ocean circulation models.
- Utilize expertise in applied mathematical/scientific programming within the Linux environment.
- Experience with Python scripting language, software version control (e.g. git), and high-performance computing is highly desirable.
Requirements
- Higher education in geophysics, applied mathematics, or equivalent.
- Experience in numerical ocean circulation modeling, with HYCOM experience being beneficial.
- Strong technical and scientific skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Fluency in Norwegian or willingness to learn Norwegian.
