About the Opportunity
MPOWIR is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen. As a member of our Physical Oceanography Research Group, you will have the opportunity to investigate submesoscale phenomena and their interaction with small-scale ocean mixing processes.

The successful candidate will work on identifying and quantifying the processes that control the heat budget north of Svalbard, with a focus on the warm Atlantic boundary current. You will also investigate the position and variability of the thermohaline polar front in the central Barents Sea.

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in oceanography, meteorology, physics, or applied mathematics, and experience in collecting and processing data from relevant measurement systems. Your research interests should align with our project goals, and you should be able to work independently and in a structured manner.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will participate in research cruises on board the research vessel Kronprins Haakon and conduct dedicated oceanic measurements. You will also interact with a PhD student and collaborate with research groups from the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) and the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on submesoscale phenomena and their interaction with small-scale ocean mixing processes.
  • Participate in research cruises and conduct dedicated oceanic measurements.
  • Collaborate with research groups from NPI and UNIS.
  • Interact with a PhD student.

Requirements:
  • PhD or equivalent degree in oceanography, meteorology, physics, or applied mathematics.
  • Experience in collecting and processing data from relevant measurement systems.
  • Strong research interests in submesoscale phenomena and their interaction with small-scale ocean mixing processes.
  • Ability to work independently and in a structured manner.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
