About Us: ECO Magazine is a leading publication dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of environmental and conservation issues. We are seeking a highly skilled Benthic Ecologist to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Benthic Ecologist to conduct research and provide advice on the ecological effects of human activities on marine ecosystems. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of scientists and technicians to increase our knowledge on the ecological effects of human activities related to marine nature types and communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field studies on benthic habitats exposed to disturbance by human activities
  • Conduct impact studies on benthic organisms in laboratories
  • Study vulnerable habitats and species identifications of Norwegian benthic fauna
  • Develop and implement research projects to increase our understanding of the ecological effects of human activities on marine ecosystems
  • Communicate research results to management, industry, and a public audience
  • Contribute to the development of management advice on the ecological effects of human activities on marine ecosystems

Requirements:

  • PhD in marine ecology, marine biology, or a relevant field
  • Experience with field studies on benthic habitats exposed to disturbance by human activities
  • Experience with conducting impact studies on benthic organisms in laboratories
  • Experience with studies on vulnerable habitats and species identifications of Norwegian benthic fauna
  • Solid publication rate
  • Availability for working in the field for longer periods (1-3 weeks)
  • Good skills in spoken and written English, and proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language

Desired Competencies:

  • A few years of experience working as a scientist after completion of the PhD
  • Broad experience in design and conducting field studies
  • Experience in leading field campaigns and cruises
  • Knowledge of data handling, e.g., programming in R
  • Good understanding of oral and written Norwegian
  • Experience in communicating research results to management, industry, and a public audience, and contribution to advice giving
