Job Opportunity: Geoscientist in Carbon Storage

We are seeking a highly skilled Geoscientist to join our team at the University of Oslo's VICCO Centre. As a key member, you will contribute to research that furthers our understanding of carbon capture and storage in the context of climate change.

About the Position

The position is part of the VISTA Centre for CO2 Storage in Volcanic-Sedimentary Systems (VICCO), funded by VISTA and the MN Faculty at the University of Oslo. Our overarching goal is to explore the potential for large-scale permanent CO2 storage in volcanic-sedimentary systems on the Norwegian continental shelf.

You will be working in a dynamic and inspiring team of students and researchers, contributing to core research activities related to CCS. Your project will focus on further understanding the geological conditions required to carbonate volcanic rocks, with an emphasis on volcanic stratigraphy in sedimentary sequences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Detailed fieldwork, core studies, and large-scale synthesis of carbonate formation in relevant lithologies.
  • Collaboration with international partners as part of the VICCO team.
  • Contributing to the development of cutting-edge research in geosciences.
Qualification Requirements

Candidates should hold a PhD degree in volcanology and volcanic stratigraphy or a related field. Strong research experience in outcrop studies of sedimentary and volcanic systems, as well as expertise in carbon isotopes and interpretations, is essential.

Prior experience with integrated basin studies, postdoc experience with active volcanic systems, and fluency in English and a Scandinavian language are desirable qualifications.
