We are now searching for a Skipper to join the crew of our Norrøna S/Y Varg. This is more than a job; it's a chance to in a safe way lead uniquely memorable expeditions in the stunning, wild landscapes of Northern Norway.

We are looking for a skipper who is

  • Competent: You have strong sailing experience, preferably in Arctic or Nordic waters. You possess the necessary licenses, including a valid Skipper's license; minimum D5 (D5L is not accepted), STCW course, valid medical certificate, Crowd and Crisis course, VHF certificate. You ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel at all times, and are an excellent communicator with both crew and guests
    Decisive: You have the ability to handle unforeseen challenges and make quick, safe decisions. You plan and execute sailing routes based on weather, safety, and guest experience

    Engaging: You provide a welcoming and engaging atmosphere onboard. You can share local knowledge, sailing insights, and nature-based storytelling with guests
  • Responsible: You are committed to sustainability and responsible tourism practices. You will consistently uphold the values of Norrøna Varg S/Y at all times

Your Adventure will include

Vessel Command: Taking responsibility for the safe operation of Norrøna S/Y Varg, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations. This includes performing anchoring, docking, and mooring procedures

Crew Leadership: Working seamlessly with the Chef and Guide to support off-boat activities and ensure the overall guest experience is world-class

Maintenance and safety: Conducting routine safety checks and ensuring all onboard safety equipment is in working order. You will also handle minor technical issues and coordinate with service providers for major repairs

- Seasonality: We sail year-round, but with high and low seasons. This is a seasonal, trip-based position. The trips last from three to seven days and will have between six to ten guests and three crew members (skipper, guide and chef). Opportunities for day trips and special events may also arise. The role involves extended periods at sea, varying hours, and physical tasks, requiring flexibility based on weather and trip schedules

Qualifications and Reporting

  • Essential Skills: Fluency in English is required (Norwegian or other languages are a plus). You must demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills
  • It is preferred that the candidate lives in the Tromsø region or the Lofoten area
  • Reporting: The Skipper reports directly to the Company Representative and is expected to maintain clear communication regarding trip status, vessel condition, and any incidents
