3rd Officer

OSM Thome Recruitment is seeking qualified and motivated 3rd Officers to join Royal Caribbean's Deck Department. This role supports the Officer in Charge of the Navigational Watch (OICNW) and assists the Safety Officer, Chief Officer Navigation, and Chief Officer Deck in ensuring safe navigation, compliance, and emergency readiness onboard.

The 3rd Officer participates in navigation watches, assists with deck operations, performs safety inspections, and contributes to the upkeep of the vessel's navigational and lifesaving equipment. The role requires professionalism, adherence to international maritime regulations, and the ability to work as part of a bridge and deck team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the OICNW during navigational watches.
• Support passage planning, ECDIS updates, and bridge procedures.
• Read and interpret navigational notices, weather forecasts, and routing information.
• Assist in routine checks and testing of lifesaving and firefighting appliances.
• Ensure all safety equipment is operational and report any deficiencies.
• Participate in shipboard drills, safety trainings, and emergency preparedness.
• Support safe mooring, docking, and undocking operations.
• Assist with deck maintenance tasks as directed by senior officers.
• Maintain bridge and deck logs, records, and documentation.
• Prepare reports, logs, and checklists as required.
• Facilitate communication between the bridge, engine room, and other departments.
• Stay updated on maritime regulations and best navigational practices.

Qualifications:

• Valid Third Officer License with OICNW endorsement.
• STCW certificates required for the rank and vessel type.
• Practical experience in bridge operations, navigation watches, and deck procedures.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with nautical charts, ECDIS, radar, and navigational software.

Language Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
• Additional languages are considered an asset.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand watch, walk and work on deck, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Good vision (near, far, color, depth perception) and ability to adjust focus.
• Comfortable working at sea in varying weather conditions, including nights and shifts.
• Must participate in emergency drills and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
