Senior Computer Vision Engineer
Location: Oslo, Norway
Type: Full-time
Start date: As soon as possible
At Six Robotics, you are not just joining a company; you are joining a mission to reshape the future of autonomous systems.
We are transforming how unmanned aerial vehicles operate, making them smarter, more capable, and easier to manage. Our mission is to revolutionize unmanned systems through intelligent software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and built for real-world impact.
As we grow, we are building a platform that brings modern software and artificial intelligence into a field long dominated by hardware, unlocking new levels of performance, flexibility, and autonomy in the air. Whether you are driven by innovation, national impact, or meaningful technology, this is your chance to help build something that truly matters from the ground up.
Our flagship software platform, Valkyrie, delivers advanced autonomy and swarm capabilities to UAVs, enabling multiple drones to collaborate seamlessly, adapt to complex missions, and operate with greater independence. In partnership with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), we are at the forefront of UAV innovation, delivering cutting-edge solutions to both government and industry.
We are a close-knit team of more than thirty people based in Oslo, combining expertise in defense, software, and AI. As a startup, we move fast, work closely, and value clarity, integrity, and teamwork in everything we do.
We are building drone systems that do more than capture images. They extract real-time insights from the environment and support mission-critical operations in complex conditions.
To strengthen this work, we are expanding our new Perception team and looking for a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to help shape its direction. You will play a key role in how we design, build, and deploy vision and sensor capabilities across our UAV platforms. Your work will directly influence sensing performance, system design, and the value we extract from onboard sensors.
You will collaborate with engineers across software, hardware, and machine learning to improve tracking, stability, and embedded AI performance. The role combines hands-on technical work with system-level thinking, and offers the opportunity to take ownership of a deeply technical area that defines how our drones perceive and understand the world.
What You Will DoYou will work across the full imaging pipeline from lens selection and optics to sensor integration and high-level software using advanced image processing techniques to ensure data quality and consistency.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, implement, and deploy computer vision algorithms that complement AI models on embedded hardware for real-time, in-flight decision making.
- Lead the selection, calibration, and configuration of camera systems to ensure high-quality sensing in dynamic conditions.
- Work directly with hardware acceleration and performance tuning on edge compute platforms.
- Collaborate within a software engineering team to integrate perception into autonomy systems, deliver new features, and maintain strong testing and validation routines.
- Stay current with developments in computer vision, AI, and sensing technologies, and bring those advancements into our platform.
You will help build the foundation of our visual understanding, turning raw pixels into intelligent behavior.
What We Are Looking ForWe are looking for technically strong software engineers who are motivated by building robust, high-quality systems and contributing meaningfully to a high-performing team. You understand that perception is not only about filters and features but about production-grade software, real-world physics, and thoughtful system design. You are excited by the connection between software and hardware, and you think holistically about how systems come together.
You likely bring:
- A strong background in computer vision, applied mathematics, and programming.
- Experience working with camera systems for real-world applications.
- Confidence in evaluating optical trade-offs, sensor configurations, and hardware constraints.
- Hands-on experience with calibration, sensor fusion, and real-time, high-performance vision processing.
- A master's degree or higher in physics, optics, cybernetics, robotics, or a related field.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with radar, lidar, or visual-inertial odometry systems.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, and GPU-accelerated computation.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the perception stack from the ground up within one of Europe's most ambitious drone autonomy platforms. You will work on mission-critical technology where real-world performance and technical excellence matter, and you will help define the future of swarm robotics.
Our Commitment to InclusionAt Six Robotics, we are committed to creating a workplace built on respect, integrity, and collaboration. We value different perspectives and experiences, and we believe that diversity within our team strengthens both our work and our culture. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and help us build technology that makes a real impact.
Our Recruitment ProcessWe believe recruitment should be a genuine conversation. Our process is open, fair, and designed to give you the space to show your strengths while we take the time to listen.
- Screening call – 30 minutes with our Recruitment Lead.
- Technical task – completed independently at your own pace.
- Technical interview – 90 minutes with the Hiring Manager and one of your future colleagues.
- Final interview – 45 minutes with the management team and Recruitment Lead.
- Reference check and offer.
All employees at Six Robotics are required to undergo a security clearance (Sikkerhetsklarering) due to our close collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces. Prior clearance is not required; the process begins as part of onboarding.
