The Department of Applied AI at Simula Research Laboratory bridges the gap between academic discoveries and real-world challenges through high-quality consulting services and industrial research. We focus on delivering solutions within machine learning and related technologies for clients in the private and public sector.
Currently, we are strengthening our team further with a Senior Data Scientist in order to grow our capabilities within model development, infrastructure and advanced software engineering.
As a new member of our team, you will be involved in exciting and challenging projects in different domains ranging from med-tech (e.g. developing models for personalized medicine) to energy (e.g. working on ML pipelines to increase production efficiency). You will help clients understand their needs and translate them into tangible and novel innovations. You will work closely with other data scientists and engineers; we prioritize a culture of collaboration. By collaborating closely with other departments in Simula you will get the opportunity to apply for funding for innovation and research activities that align with the goals of the Department of Applied AI.
In short, here's what you will focus on
- Participate in various IT projects with external customers: understand a problem and gather requirements, translate business problems into technical requirements and turn data into insights.
- Work on problems requiring state-of-the-art computer vision, NLP, LLM and time series forecasting techniques.
- Initiate and join industrial research projects, collaborate on proposals and drive the R&D process.
- Collaborate with data scientists and ML researchers and get the opportunity to be involved in the entire machine learning life-cycle: training, deployment and maintenance.
- Take responsibility as a senior for mentoring others, help with project management, and client contacts.
As a senior data scientist we believe you recognize yourself in most of the following
- Have at least 4 years of working experience within solving industrial machine learning problems, being familiar with PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn and other libraries.
- Have affinity with consultancy, client communication and business case development.
- Be a curious and collaborative person that puts quality first.
Have industry-standard experience in software development, data engineering and deployment practices, including experience with Python, Docker, Microsoft Azure, SQL.
In addition, we consider the following beneficial:
- Be a driving and entrepreneurial force in the department.
- Interested in learning new technologies and sharing knowledge with others.
- A relevant network within Norwegian industry.
- Relevant research experience.
- Can work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish, while also enjoying teamwork. Experience in agile project management is a plus.
