We are looking for a reliable and safety-minded Incinerator Operator to support the vessel's waste processing operations. This role is responsible for the safe operation, cleaning, and monitoring of the ship's incinerator room, pulper system, and garbage sorting processes, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

You will work under the supervision of the Incinerator Technician and support daily operations, maintenance tasks, and waste segregation procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain the incinerator room and pulper system.
  • Perform routine cleaning of machinery spaces, sensors, floors, wash basins, bins, and garbage rooms.
  • Monitor equipment performance and ensure systems function safely and efficiently.
  • Log and perform daily pulper system water changes and verify flow for continuous systems.
  • Sort waste into appropriate streams (glass, metal tins, aluminum cans).
  • Prepare and store recyclable materials in the cold garbage storage room.
  • Ensure proper sanitation of all areas, containers, and storage spaces.
  • Follow all environmental, safety, and PPE requirements.
  • Immediately report equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
  • Assist with additional waste-handling tasks as assigned.
  • Carry out work orders issued by the Incinerator Technician.
  • Support vessel waste management operations with flexibility and professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and cleaning documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Completed STCW Basic Safety Training (BST).
  • Prior experience in waste management, incinerator operation, or related mechanical/maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures; basic math and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Comfortable working in hot, noisy, and physically demanding environments.

Language Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Additional languages are an advantage but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk long distances, climb stairs, and perform manual tasks.
  • Work in confined, hot, or industrial environments typical of incineration areas.
  • Exposure to odors, fumes, dust, heat, and machinery.
  • Must be able to safely perform duties around moving and hot equipment.
  • Participation in shift work, overtime, and on-call duties may be required.
