NDT technicians and pressure testers

Inspection, pressure and leak testing — Western Norway

No weld is finished until it has been inspected, and no pipe run is finished until it has held pressure. We are looking for certified NDT technicians and experienced pressure testers for rig, vessel and module projects with one of Western Norway's leading yard and offshore environments.

About us

Nor-Operation AS is a Norwegian staffing company based in Kristiansand, working on assignments across the country. We supply skilled tradespeople to industry, on- and offshore, renewable energy, construction, and service and maintenance. The company is listed in the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority's register of approved staffing enterprises. We are small enough that you speak to the person who actually decides, and large enough to have the work.

The assignment is with one of our clients in the yard and offshore market in Western Norway. The client is named during the interview.

The work — NDT

–    Non-destructive testing of welds and materials: visual (VT), penetrant (PT), magnetic particle (MT), ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic (RT)

–    Interpretation and reporting of indications against applicable acceptance criteria, and follow-up of repair welding

–    Calibration and daily checks of your own equipment, working to approved procedures

–    Liaison with the welding inspector, QA and client on non-conformities and how they are closed out

The work — pressure and leak testing

–    Preparation and execution of hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing of piping systems, tanks and pressure vessels

–    Building test packs: blinding, isolation, filling, venting, stepwise pressurisation, hold time and logging

–    Leak testing with nitrogen/helium or soap solution, and leak detection on flanges and connections

–    Barricading and securing the test area, risk assessment and safe job analysis before pressure is applied

–    Completion and sign-off of test reports and the documentation pack

Requirements

–    NDT certification to Level 2 under NS-EN ISO 9712 in at least one method. State method, level, sector and expiry date in your application

–    Or: documented experience with pressure and leak testing from shipyards, offshore or process industry

–    Solid grasp of isometrics, test packs, piping classes and P&IDs

–    Accuracy in documentation — your report has to stand up to a client or third party reading it a year later

–    Norwegian or English, spoken and written — sufficient for safe job analysis (SJA), permit meetings and shift handover

–    Valid ID and the legal right to work in Norway

Nice to have

–    Several methods, or Level 3 in one or more of them

–    UT with phased array (PA) or TOFD

–    RT with valid certification for work involving ionising radiation

–    Basic offshore safety and emergency preparedness training (GSK/BOSIET) and a valid offshore medical certificate

–    Familiarity with NORSOK M-101/M-601, ASME B31.3 and the regulations for pressurised equipment

–    Experience as a welding inspector (IWI/CSWIP) or in a QA/QC role
