Bergen, Vestland, Norway Value Publishing AS Full time

Do you want to take a leading role in our highly skilled Water department, and help us make Norway and the world more sustainable through our ambitious strategy #FutureNow? Can you see yourself leading specialists and project managers within the area of Water engineering and at the same time contribute to our projects with your own knowledge in this area? And are you excited about leadership? Then, here is your chance to convert aspirations into actions.

COWI's technical environment within water in Norway has been among the industry's strongest for many years, and our water department is recognized as a well-established and cooperative environment. We are more than 100 people located in different offices in Norway, working closely together and utilising the technical strength from the entire department.
We are now looking for a Head of Discipline to join our team

In the discipline Bergen/Haugesund we are currently 18 skilled employees with a great balance and diversity both in seniority and technical skillsets. The social and working environment is known to be including, warm and cooperative. You will be responsible for the professional development in the discipline and have a commercial mindset to maintain a competitive team of employees.

In addition to working on larger projects all over the country, the discipline also focuses on serving our local customers, and among other clients we have a great history of projects for the largest local municipalities like Bergen and Haugesund.
Nationally we are working alongside our customers on some of Norway's most significant and exciting projects, like for instance Bergen Bybane, Arna-Stanghelle, Bodø Lufthavn, Regjeringskvartalet and new main water supplies for both Oslo and Stavanger.

Join our Water department working across Norway
We have ambitious growth plans and consistently aim to further strengthen our position. As a Head of Discipline, you will be part of the department management team – and you will have 6 other Head of Disciplines as your closest colleagues and peers. You will report to the VP, Head of Engineering Water.

You will be the day-to-day people manager of 18 dedicated advisors located in our offices in Bergen and Haugesund.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead and role model according to COWI's leadership behaviours and values
  • Well-being of your employees and ensuring a good working environment
  • Facilitating the development of your discipline
  • Evaluating need for new hires and running the hiring process
  • Coordination with the other Head of Disciplines, market and project directors and Vice President
  • Project management or specialist input to projects

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.
Like us, you believe that leadership success comes from setting a clear and meaningful direction for your team and supporting them in taking ownership of their work. You always delegate responsibility and ensure an open and safe dialogue, and you coach your people to achieve their aspirations through constructive, fact-based feedback. Attracting and nurturing a diverse group of high-potential team members is at the top of your agenda, as is creating an inclusive, caring and trusting culture in your team.

On top of that, we expect that you already are:

  • Preferably an experienced leader of others, but also project management experience can be relevant
  • Experienced with aspects of water and wastewater engineering
  • Minimum bachelor level in relevant engineering studies
  • Preferably experienced with working in consultancy where quality of services, customer needs and engagement of colleagues go hand in hand
  • Fluent or minimum C2 level Norwegian or other Scandinavian languages, oral and written

COWI has customers and projects that may require security clearance at various levels. There may therefore be requirements for security clearance in some projects/positions.

A place to work and so much more
At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world. We do it by applying our knowledge and curiosity – and sometimes even our courage – to create the solutions the world needs today to enable a better tomorrow. That is why we say no to fossil-based projects and aspire to have 100% of our revenue come from activities that move our customers towards sustainability.

We value differences and development and cultivate an environment of belonging and having fun. Because that is what brings out the best in you, at work and at home.

What we also offer:

  • The opportunity to build up your skills with exciting projects
  • Good opportunities for personal development through a personal development plan, COWI Academy and the COWI Connect mentoring scheme
  • National and international collaboration across organizations and disciplines. We have approx. 70 different professional networks in COWI
  • An active company culture with social and athletic activities, "lønningstreff" and company cabins
  • Flexible working hours with a home office arrangement, five weeks' holiday and time off between Christmas and New Year
  • A separate community called 'Young in COWI' for employees under the age of 34, where social trips and events are arranged
  • Finally, a good working environment. It is important for us to be generous and stand up for each other. Which is also reflected in our well-being and employee surveys

We are committed to creating a respectful and fair work environment where all employees have a sense of belonging and equitable opportunities to thrive and grow.
