About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD candidate to join our research team at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research initiatives in compiler technologies, focusing on code optimization and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Acquire and maintain advanced knowledge of compiler technologies and code optimization techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of novel compiler designs and optimization strategies.
  • Collaborate with international researchers to tackle complex challenges in compiler technologies.
  • Author and co-author scientific manuscripts in academic English.
  • Participate in approved international events to disseminate research results.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong academic background with an average grade of B or better.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of C++ programming.
  • Competence in code optimisations.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software co-design principles, and computer architectures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with large C++ code bases.
  • Experience with MLIR and/or LLVM frameworks.
  • Experience with Precision Tuning and/or other approximate computing methods.
  • Experience with one or more heterogeneity-aware code acceleration paradigms (OpenCL, CUDA, SYCL, etc.).
  • Track record of open-source code contributions.

Salary and Conditions

As a PhD candidate, you will be paid from gross NOK 532,200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. The period of employment is 3 years, with possibility of 4 years with 25% teaching duties included for the right candidate.
