Music Director

The position as Chorus Master in Den Norske Opera & Ballett is vacant. The successful candidate will have full artistic responsibility for the Norwegian National Opera Chorus, which at present consists of 52 full-time singers.

1. Artistic development of the chorus in line with the Artistic Director of Opera's vision and strategy.
2. Ensuring the Norwegian National Opera Chorus maintains the highest professional standards, provides a positive working environment, and supports chorus members' professional development and welfare.
3. Preparing and rehearsing the chorus.
4. Artistic and administrative dialogue with conductors and directors on individual productions.
5. Artistic responsibility for chorus concerts and tours.
6. Advising the Artistic Director of Opera on chorus matters.
7. Planning the chorus' musical rehearsals and season schedule.
8. Recruitment of new chorus members.

1. Broad knowledge of the opera repertoire and significant relevant experience.
2. High level of proficiency in both piano accompaniment and conducting.
3. Good language skills - preferably German and/or Italian in addition to English. The working language of the chorus and the opera house is Norwegian and the acquisition of a basic knowledge of the language will be required.
4. Experience of (artistic) trade union relations and consultation with union representatives.
5. Good skills as a team player and communicator.
6. Ability to manage a large workload effectively.
7. Administrative ability.
