Financial Restructuring Strategist

We are seeking a seasoned professional to drive the execution of restructuring and workout strategies for medium and large high-risk corporates.

Nordea's Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit group is responsible for managing high-risk corporate exposures. We need someone with expertise in distressed financial situations to lead our High Risk Workout team.

About the Team:

The High Risk Workout team is part of Nordea's Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit department. As the Financial Restructuring Strategist, you will report to the Head of Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit and be responsible for ensuring the execution of structured workout and restructuring strategies in alignment with Nordea's risk framework.

Main Responsibilities:

• Oversee the execution of Nordea's strategic frameworks for workouts and restructuring of high-risk corporate exposures
• Manage and lead the High Risk Workout team to ensure consistency and effectiveness in handling complex, distressed financial situations
• Ensure cases are approached with a structured, strategic mindset, balancing commercial, financial, legal, and reputational considerations
• Guide and challenge workout strategies to ensure alignment with risk appetite and overall bank objectives
• Ensure effective internal collaboration across credit, legal, risk, and other key stakeholders to optimize decision-making
• Oversee high-stakes negotiations and stakeholder relationships, including company management, boards, external advisors, and financial institutions
• Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to adapt workout strategies to reflect best practices and new developments
• Strengthen internal frameworks and processes to drive continuous improvement in Nordea's workout and restructuring capabilities

Requirements:

• Strong strategic mindset, deep financial expertise, and ability to oversee execution in complex restructuring cases
• Proven leadership experience in overseeing and ensuring execution of financial restructuring, corporate workouts, or distressed asset management
• Strategic thinker able to translate high-level restructuring principles into effective, practical execution
• Deep knowledge in credit risk management, insolvency frameworks, and restructuring methodologies
• Strong negotiator and decision-maker able to ensure cases are managed proactively and with a focus on risk-adjusted outcomes
• Confident communicator capable of providing clear strategic direction and ensuring alignment across multiple stakeholders
• Adaptable and resilient with ability to oversee execution in fast-changing and often uncertain environment

Desirable Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in managing and overseeing restructuring and workout strategies within a financial institution
• Strong background in credit risk management, corporate banking, or distressed asset resolution
• Experience in investment banking, corporate finance, M&A, or senior relationship management (SRM)
• Leadership experience in managing high-performing teams
• Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field
• Fluent in English, knowledge of Finnish or Scandinavian is an advantage
