Role Overview

The DevOps/SRE Engineer at Varnish Software plays a vital role in designing, developing, and maintaining the company's streaming infrastructure.

This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration abilities to ensure seamless integration with cross-functional teams and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Infrastructure Design and Development
    • Designing and implementing scalable and secure streaming infrastructure using cloud and on-premises resources.
    • Developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployment of streaming and caching software.
    • Collaborating with Solutions Engineers, Network Engineers, and R&D to ensure seamless integrations.
  • Automation and Performance Optimization
    • Developing and implementing automation scripts using Python, Go, Bash, or JavaScript to streamline infrastructure management and reduce operational overhead.
    • Monitoring and optimizing latency, bandwidth utilization, and request routing to ensure high-performance streaming experiences.
    • Collaborating with internal teams to develop and implement performance optimization strategies.
  • Security and Compliance
    • Ensuring the security and compliance of the streaming infrastructure by implementing DDoS mitigation, WAFs, and API security measures.
    • Collaborating with the security team to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Documentation and Collaboration
    • Documenting internal tools, automation workflows, and network optimizations for internal teams and customers.
    • Collaborating with Solutions Engineers, Network Engineers, and R&D to ensure seamless integrations and share knowledge.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong Linux/Unix administration experience.
  • Understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, Anycast, CDN routing, firewalls, and load balancing).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid-cloud networking.
  • Proficiency in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) and orchestration tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience developing internal tools and automation scripts using Python, Go, Bash, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with observability and performance monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including DDoS mitigation, WAFs, and API security.

Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams, and excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role.
