Rainforest Foundation Norway is the leading rainforest NGO in Europe and one of the largest in the world. We are renowned for our advocacy for increased and improved funding for rainforest protection and indigenous rights, targeting climate and biodiversity funding, REDD+ and other financial incentives. Now we are looking for a skilled and committed international forest finance advisor for a temporary position, to contribute to this work in a crucial time for tropical rainforests.
This role will have a special responsibility for RFNs advocacy work to to further develop and promote fit-for-purpose funding to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP and LCs), through an inclusive process involving relevant stakeholders.

You will be based in our policy team, working with a team of eight dedicated policy advisers, and collaborate with colleagues and partner organisations working to protect the rainforest across the Amazon, Congo Basin and Southeast Asia.

Responsibilities Involve

  • Contribute to RFNs advocacy work targeting relevant financial mechanisms for tropical rainforest conservation and IP and LC rights, including REDD+, carbon markets, bilateral, multilateral and philanthropic climate and biodiversity finance.
  • With support from the team, develop and execute an inclusive process involving different stakeholders to further define and build a shared understanding of how to further advance funding for Indigenous peoples and local communities that is "fit-for-purpose".
  • Develop products originating from this process (summaries, reports, policy briefs etc).
  • Contribute to RFNs work on monitoring and analysing international donor funding for Indigenous peoples and local communities, through the Path to Scale Dashboard and the annual State of Funding for Tenure Rights report.
  • Contribute to developing impactful messaging on the above topics.

Desired Skills And Qualification

  • Relevant higher education. All formal education can be compensated by relevant experience.
  • Multiple years of experience in the field of environment and/or development finance.
  • Experience from work with IP and LC tenure rights, REDD+, climate and biodiversity finance is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead processes involving different stakeholders across different organizations.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work in a structured matter.
  • Ability to gather and analyse data for advocacy purposes
  • Full fluency in English required. Norwegian and RFN program country languages (Spanish, French, Portuguese or Bahasa) are an asset
  • Willing and able to travel
