What you'll do

Build and maintain backend services and APIs for ingesting and serving sensor and image data.

Design, provision, and operate cloud infrastructure (networking, compute, storage, IAM) using infrastructure as code.

Deploy and run services on Docker/Kubernetes to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficient use of resources.

Implement storage and access layers for structured and unstructured data (time-series, images, logs).

Ensure data integrity, security, and observability across the whole pipeline (ingestion processing storage APIs).

Work closely with ML engineers and developers to give them the data and interfaces they need.

What we're looking for Qualifications

Strong coding skills in at least one modern backend language (e.g. Rust, C++, or C# on .Net), with experience building production services, not just scripts or notebooks.

Experience designing and implementing REST APIs (bonus: gRPC, WebSockets, background workers, etc.).

Solid understanding of software engineering practices: code reviews, testing, CI/CD, version control, debugging in production.

Professional experience running Docker/Kubernetes in production, including deploying and operating backend services on Kubernetes.

Hands-on experience provisioning cloud infrastructure in AWS, GCP, or Azure (VPC/networking, IAM/roles, storage, managed databases, message queues, etc.).

Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Helm, GitOps).

Database experience with both SQL and NoSQL systems, including schema design and query optimisation.

Knowledge of message brokers / streaming systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or cloud equivalents).

Autonomy, proactiveness, and good communication skills; comfortable owning systems end-to-end.

Nice to have

Experience with ETL pipelines, big data, or streaming frameworks (Flink, Spark, Beam, Kafka Streams, etc.).

Hands-on experience with observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).

Knowledge of real-time data processing or edge computing, especially with unreliable networks.

Familiarity with security best practices for cloud infrastructure, APIs, and data pipelines.

Some frontend experience (React, TypeScript, or similar) to build internal UIs and dashboards.

This role is probably NOT for you if

Your main experience is training ML models and you've only done light backend work (e.g. small Flask/FastAPI apps around notebooks).

Most of your coding has been short-lived scripts, experiments, or notebooks, not long-lived backend services/APIs in production.

You are primarily interested in ML research or model design, rather than building and operating software systems.

You've mostly focused on ops-only work (clicking around in cloud consoles, maintaining clusters) without regularly writing backend application code.
