Activities

Context:

Ambitious climate targets of keeping global temperature rise below 2˚C were launched during COP21 in 2015. Recent COPs have focused on measures to achieve this goal. To meet the challenges of reaching climate targets, TotalEnergies has integrated climate into its strategy. TotalEnergies aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with interim targets including a 40% reduction in net Scope 1+2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2015, and significant investments in renewable energy and electricity.

TotalEnergies is actively working to reduce its emissions, develop renewable energies, help shape customer demand, and develop carbon sinks. This ambition is backed by an integrated strategy across the gas, electricity, and liquid fuels value chains, designed to decarbonize the Group's energy mix. In Norway, authorities have similar climate goals. In particular, reducing GHG emissions from the oil and gas business is a key objective, targeting at least a 55% reduction by 2030 (compared to 1990) and net zero GHG emissions by 2050. In addition, Norway is increasingly ambitious in the development of renewables, especially in offshore wind power. To reach this goal, various research, development, and innovation measures have been put in place, including dedicated RD programs, strategic alliances, and collaborative forums.

Within this environment, the job holder will contribute to identifying ongoing business, research, and development activities in Norway that are of interest to TotalEnergies, facilitate the interaction between the company and the R&D actors, and follow up on some of the RD projects.

Missions:

Within the Stavanger Research Center (SRC), the main task of the job holder will be to systematically assess and report on ongoing and new initiatives with a "Renewables and Low Carbon solutions" focus, including maintaining and developing further the Monthly Low Carbon Newsletter. He/she will also be involved in the assessment and follow-up of selected RD projects together with/on behalf of project managers based in the SRC or headquarters. He/she will work closely with the RD Ecosystem Advisor and with the rest of the SRC team where relevant.

To contribute to the development of TotalEnergies in new areas, the job holder will work on the following topics based on the Innovation landscape in Norway, and when relevant include EU/strategic relationships for Norway:

  • Renewable energy (Onshore/offshore wind; bottom fixed and floating, solar, hydropower, etc.)
  • Hydrogen (Blue and Green)
  • Regulatory aspects - Energy systems
  • Key RD and commercial actors on selected topics, including environmental issues
  • Funding opportunities for Energy Transition, Renewables, and Low Carbon RD in Norway

The job holder will:

  • Share information with HQ and in the affiliate by preparing and managing the monthly "Low Carbon and Renewables newsletter" that is focused on the Norwegian ecosystem (research, business, strategy, etc.). It consists of gathering articles and press releases, providing additional information, and putting in context the news related to Norway and Norwegian players on different topics linked to energy transition.
  • Maintain and oversee the management tool used to follow up on projects and opportunities.
  • Prepare written memos/reports/highlights on selected topics and share/present information regularly to SRC or the larger RD/One Tech community of the TotalEnergies company.
  • Research and communicate/present more detailed information on key topics (topics agreed with SRC based on regular report/general communication) to SRC, other relevant TotalEnergies R&D entities, and wider TEPN/TotalEnergies forums.
  • Follow up on selected R&D projects according to the area of expertise, which includes communicating with both external and internal stakeholders, preparing presentations on main outcomes and challenges of the project(s).

In addition to the above main activities, the job holder will support the SRC team with the following activities:

  • Capitalization of know-how and results from various technical and scientific documents delivered from JIPs.
  • Be an integrated member of the SRC team and support joint team activities.

Adaptations to the scope may be implemented as the work commences and based on the technical specialty of the job holder.

Candidate Profile

Technical skills:

  • Previous experiences related to renewables, low carbon solutions, etc. will be a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in some programming languages such as Python will be a plus.

Languages:

  • French: B2 level
  • Scandinavian language will be a plus.
