Specialist Engineer-Protection

ONBOARDING YOU TO THE COMPANY

At Nexans, our global vision is to electrify the future. At our business group 'Generation & Transmission', this means designing and fabricating the world's best cables. We deliver EPCI turnkey projects anywhere in the world. This means we have the best tools, equipment, and people with competence and skillset to install and service those cables.

WELCOMING YOU TO THE TEAM

Located in Norway and France, the Survey & Protection team comprises more than 50 highly competent and diverse members. Due to the unique engineering skills of our team, we are able to plan and execute marine cable installation projects anywhere in the world. We can overcome environmental constraints and client requirements with our unique engineering expertise. The workplace is in Oslo. Our team is expanding, so we are looking for a new colleague.

GETTING A FLYING START

To succeed in the Survey & Protection team, you need experience in the energy, maritime, marine, Oil & Gas, offshore, or construction fields. You have worked in companies that are project-driven and have activities related to cable/pipe protection or seabed intervention, protection, and survey. You have experience working domestically or internationally. Ideally, your experience is related to interconnectors, wind farms, or power from shore. You will be comfortable ensuring quality and safety during the projects. You have experience taking charge and working on your initiative through your natural problem-solver mentality and leadership skills.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
As a Specialist Engineer-Protection, your role will be crucial in ensuring the success of our marine protection projects. Here's how you can make a significant impact:

  • Planning and Design
  • Develop technical solutions for cable protection and provide technical expertise during the planning and execution phases. Assist the Marine Lead Engineer in monitoring the schedule, cost, and resources for the installation.
  • Perform a thorough contract review and gain a comprehensive understanding of the protection requirements, required equipment, and project milestones.
  • Provide input on the protection aspect of the installation budget.
  • Define technical specifications for subcontractor work during the planning phase.
  • Coordinate the utilization of equipment such as CAPJET and Cable plough for protection operations.
  • Supervise and support operations of CAPJET and Cable ploughs for cable installation.
  • Plan for the installation of concrete mattresses to prepare and/or protect cable crossings.
  • Follow up with subcontractors.
  • Provide offshore support during the installation phase.
  • Maintain effective communication and follow up with subcontractors throughout the cable installation process.
  • Survey and Verification:
  • Utilize remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to conduct surveys and verify the effectiveness of cable protection measures.
  • Identify and address any potential issues or vulnerabilities in the cable protection system.
  • Generate detailed reports on survey findings and provide recommendations for necessary remedial actions.
  • Ensure that assessments of the protection requirements are conducted, evaluated for feasibility, and aligned with contract/client specifications.

YOUR STARTING POINT

  • BSc or MSc degree in the area of Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience. Extensive experience with similar positions can compensate for formal education.
  • To succeed in this role, you will need to be a problem-solver who is capable of thinking outside the box.
  • Are you a challenge enthusiast? In our fast-paced environment, we are able to work at high speeds and meet short deadlines.
  • Nexans works in teams based on project execution, so being self-driven and able to take charge of one's own tasks is of utmost importance.
  • Fluent in English – oral and written.
  • Your personal values are aligned with those of Nexans: Pioneer, Dedicated, United.

OUR GROWTH CULTURE

At the individual level, our growth culture is built on trust and collaboration. We wish to welcome you as a valuable member of our team. To enable impact, we believe in freedom and autonomy at the individual level while encouraging knowledge sharing, teamwork mentality, and a can-do attitude among our team members.
