Job Description:

Drive ESG performance and sustainability initiatives in the Nordics

Telenor Nordics is a Business Area covering Telenor's four Nordic markets with an ambitious plan for strengthening our operations in the region and leveraging our combined strength as part of the "One Nordic" initiative.

We are now seeking a talented Manager ESG to strengthen our team and be responsible for ESG in the Nordics. As ESG becomes increasingly important in the global business landscape, alongside growing regulatory demands and stakeholder expectations, this role will be essential in coordinating ESG activities across the Nordic markets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing our overall ESG performance, thereby solidifying Telenor Nordics as a leader in sustainable practices.

As our new Manager ESG in Telenor Nordics, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and enhancing the development and implementation of ESG strategies and initiatives across the Nordic region, ensuring alignment with sustainability trends and European regulatory requirements such as those under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The role also includes securing a robust ESG reporting framework, compliance, and integrating ESG considerations into the overall strategy.

You will have the opportunity to shape the ESG strategy across four markets in the Nordic region, each with its own regulatory environment and cultural nuances. As the first dedicated ESG resource at the Nordic level, you will be instrumental in establishing and driving Telenor Nordics' sustainability agenda. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop and implement tailored ESG strategies that cater to diverse needs while ensuring regional alignment.

The role offers high visibility within the company and with external stakeholders, and your work will directly contribute to enhancing Telenor Nordics' reputation as a leader in sustainable business practices.

You will report to the VP Public Affairs and collaborate with business units and key stakeholders to drive sustainability initiatives and enhance Telenor Nordics' ESG performance.

Some of your main responsibilities:

  1. Develop and manage a comprehensive ESG reporting framework together with Finance, to measure, monitor, and communicate the organization's ESG performance to both internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Collaborate with Group resources to engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry associations, and ESG rating agencies, to promote the organization's ESG agenda and enhance its ESG ratings and industry standing.
  3. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness and impact of ESG initiatives, recommending improvements to boost the organization's ESG performance and reputation.
  4. Stay informed on regulatory guidelines, conduct compliance analyses, monitor the organization's adherence to these guidelines, and implement corrective plans as needed to ensure alignment.
  5. Collaborate with business units to create, refine, and implement climate and ESG strategy plans/roadmaps, conduct risk assessments, and provide targeted support to ensure successful implementation and alignment with the organization's ESG objectives.
  6. Together with the communications team in Telenor Nordics, develop and execute communication strategies, both internally and externally, to raise awareness and understanding of the organization's ESG initiatives and performance within Telenor Nordics and business units.
  7. Collaborate with the VP of Public Affairs and Group resources to develop and deliver a tracking system for ESG and climate goals for the Nordics and business units.

Preferred experience and competencies:

  1. 3-7 years of experience in developing and implementing ESG strategies within a corporate environment, preferably within the European region, with familiarity in navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
  2. Proven experience in ensuring compliance with ESG-related regulations and standards, including the development and management of ESG reporting with specific knowledge of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
  3. Familiarity with global and regional regulatory guidelines specific to ESG.
  4. Strong experience in engaging with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and ESG agencies.
  5. Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions and geographies, especially within Europe, to integrate ESG considerations into broader business strategies.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex ESG concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  7. Relevant higher education, preferably at master's level within a relevant field such as Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies or Law.
  8. Familiarity with concepts such as Code of Conduct, Governing principles, BoD rules of procedure, as well as familiarity with the Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) required by CSRD.
  9. Excellent verbal and written English are required.
