Applications are invited for a 3-year position in a Research Fellowship as PhD Candidate in Biostatistics to be based at the Department of Biostatistics of the University of Oslo.
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to conduct research in the field of evidence synthesis. The project will focus on statistical methods for living network meta-analyses – dynamic networks of interventions that are continuously updated as new evidence emerges. This PhD position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to advancing methodologies that ensure up-to-date and comprehensive comparisons of multiple treatments over time.
About the research groupThe research group "Knowledge and Data Synthesis" is part of the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE). OCBE is one of Europe's most active biostatistics groups with currently ca 75 researchers. OCBE is internationally recognized, with interests spanning a broad range of areas - including statistical machine learning, high-dimensional data and big data, computationally intensive inference for complex models, causal inference and survival models, measurement uncertainty, and research for clinical trials and observational studies - and numerous collaborations with leading bio-medical research groups internationally and in Norway.
More about the positionThe fellowship period is 3 years and devoted to carrying out a project entitled "Sequential and adaptive methods for living network meta-analyses". The research fellow must take part in the faculty's approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
It may be possible to extend the fellowship period up to 4 years, with 3 years devoted to research education. In that case, the position entails a compulsory workload of 25% that consists of teaching and supervision duties and research assistance. The successful candidate should start no later than 1st September 2025.
- Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as statistics/biostatistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, health economics with an average grade of B or above.
- To be employed as a PhD Research Fellow, admission to a doctoral program is required, or there must be a binding agreement for admission. Normally, one must apply for admission to a Ph.D. program within 3 months after the start of the research project leading to the Ph.D. degree.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Programming skills in a high-level language such as R or Python are essential.
- Previous experience with meta-analysis and systematic reviews is desirable but not essential.
