Fornebu, Norway NOV Full time 900,000 - 1,200,000 per year

About the role

At NOV, safety isn't just a priority — it's part of our DNA. We're looking for a Senior Technical Safety Engineer who will play a key role in driving technical safety, loss prevention, and risk management across complex energy projects worldwide.

In this role, you'll lead activities ensuring compliance with Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) regulations, safeguarding people, assets, and the environment throughout every project phase — from early concept to operations and decommissioning. You'll act as the subject-matter expert for safety design, guiding cross-functional teams to make informed, risk-based engineering decisions that support NOV's commitment to building a safer, smarter, and more sustainable energy future.

If you're passionate about transforming technical safety principles into real-world impact, this is the opportunity for you.

About the Company

NOV Process Systems is a business unit within NOV Marine and Construction that specializes in designing and delivering advanced process technologies for the energy sector. The business focuses on equipment and systems used in separation, treatment, and handling of oil, gas, water, and solids. With a strong emphasis on efficiency, reliability, and environmental compliance, NOV Process Systems supports both offshore and onshore operations worldwide. The team works closely with customers to develop tailored solutions that optimize performance across a range of processing challenges in the energy industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate HAZID/ENVID workshops, major accident hazard analyses, and safety reviews.
  • Develop and execute risk studies including EFRAs, QRAs, and ALARP demonstrations, ensuring compliance with PSA and NORSOK frameworks.
  • Provide input on inherently safer design during concept and FEED phases.
  • Review and specify technical safety systems, including F&G detection, ESD/SIS systems, and passive and active fire protection.
  • Prepare and validate safety philosophies, performance standards, and design documentation.
  • Support commissioning, operations, and modifications, including updates to PSA AoC submissions.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure safety integration and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and carry out HFE requirements implementation according to international standards such as NORSOK S-001 and IOGP 454
Face client in matter of technical safety and coordinate external contractors in own area of expertise.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in technical/process safety, with at least 3 years on NCS projects.
  • Strong knowledge of PSA, NORSOK, DNV, API, and ISO standards.
  • Hands-on experience with PHAST, FLACS, Safeti (or similar tools); knowledge of Excel or Python for analysis is a plus.
  • Fluent in English (Norwegian proficiency is an advantage).
  • Strong analytical mindset, proactive approach, and passion for driving safety excellence.
A collaborative, detail-oriented mindset with excellent communication and analytical skills.

Why Join Us?

At NOV, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact on global energy projects by ensuring they are designed and operated with the highest safety standards. You'll work alongside highly skilled, international teams, sharing knowledge and driving innovation across disciplines.

We offer an environment where your ideas are valued, and where you can grow both professionally and personally through training, certifications, and mentorship programs. You'll be part of an organization that believes in continuous learning and collaboration, empowering you to take ownership of your projects and see your solutions implemented worldwide.

In this role, you'll experience a dynamic mix of office, site, and international collaboration, with occasional offshore or overseas travel (5–10%) to truly see your work in action. NOV offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and, most importantly, the chance to build a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future with a team that shares your passion for excellence.
