Postdoctoral Fellow in bile duct immunology

Oslo, Oslo County, Norway Byggmakker Norge AS Full time

Want to advance understanding of bile duct inflammation with integrated multiomics techniques?

A 3-year postdoctoral fellow position is available at the Research Institute of Internal Medicine and the Norwegian PSC Research Center (NoPSC) at Oslo University Hospital. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway FRIPRO project 4DINFLAMMABILE.

NoPSC is dedicated to research on the chronic liver disease known as primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). The NoPSC center comprises three research groups covering all aspects of research related to primary sclerosing cholangitis, from basic genomic and experimental studies to clinical research and clinical trials. The research environment is world-leading for PSC and includes 30-35 engaged researchers from several countries and specialties.

The immune system plays a clear role in the pathogenesis of PSC, but the specific inflammatory mechanisms leading to the destruction of the bile ducts remain unknown.

We invite highly motivated candidates with an interest in liver disease, immunology, and multiomic methodologies (sequencing-based and protein phenotyping) to apply for the postdoctoral position.

The postdoc will participate in the ongoing 4DINFLAMMABILE project, which aims to characterize bile duct inflammation in order to identify targetable molecular pathways using a range of multiomic techniques. In-depth characterization of animal models of bile duct inflammation and patients with PSC has been performed using spatial transcriptomics and single-cell sequencing (10x Genomics), mainly focusing on liver tissue.

Responsibilities

Our new colleague will take on the challenging task of extending transcriptomic findings to the protein level using various state-of-the-art staining techniques, such as tissue CyTOF, CLARITY, and single-cell/spatial proteomics. A key task will also be to integrate sequencing-based datasets with proteomics, in collaboration with our bioinformaticians.

The duration of appointment is 3 years.

Qualifications

Required selection criteria

  • A degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular biology or immunology. The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the approval of the public defense of the doctoral thesis.
  • The ability to design, plan, and interpret original experiments in an independent and innovative way.
  • Experience with sequencing-based methods for immunological characterization.

  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language.
  • Well organized with high working capacity and productivity.
