About the position and the HOMME project

Applications are invited for a 3-year position as postdoctoral fellow at the Section of Health-, Developmental and Personality Psychology (HUP), Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Oslo.

The position is part of the ERC Advanced Grant project "Health, Cognition, Family, and Employment among Men" (HOMME). It studies how men's changing family and working lives - two central domains of adult life - influence their health and cognition. This is the first ERC advanced grant ever awarded to the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. Within this project, the successful candidate will be able to develop a research agenda focusing on health effects of men's participation in the family and drivers of the greater diversity in men's fertility and family experiences.

More about the position

The candidate will make use of a rich linkage of register data on the whole Norwegian population and larger health studies, and may include research on how gender roles, parental leave, and traditional values in communities influence men's life outcomes. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers with backgrounds in demography, sociology, psychology, economics and health sciences. The candidate will work closely with researchers at other institutions, especially the Norwegian Institute of Public Health where the candidate will be offered part-time placement, and there are opportunities for collaboration and exchanges with international project partners in Europe and North America.

The appointment is a fulltime position for a period of three years. The employment period can be considered to be up to 4 years given addition of teaching and administrative duties (up to 25 %), depending on the competence of the successful applicant and the needs of the department.

The successful applicant will join the HOMME project, led by Prof. Vegard Skirbekk.

The HUP Section conducts research and provides education in health, developmental, and personality psychology across various academic programs. The section has around 40 national and international staff members, including a dozen permanent university lecturer, associate professors and professors, with about half being women.
