PhD Research Fellow in Applied Mathematics

The University of Bergen is seeking a highly skilled PhD Research Fellow to contribute to a project focused on the co-production of geothermal energy and minerals. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the project team to develop mathematical models and numerical approaches for compositional reactive transport, assessing the potential of geothermal energy and mineral co-production from deep hydrothermal systems.
Key Responsibilities- Develop mathematical models and numerical approaches for compositional reactive transport
- Collaborate with the project team to assess the potential of geothermal energy and mineral co-production
- Contribute to the development of software for modeling compositional multiphase flow
- Interdisciplinary collaborations with experimental researchers in aqueous geochemistry
- Master's degree in applied and computational mathematics, scientific computing, computational physics, or computational geoscience
- Strong expertise in mathematical modeling, partial differential equations, numerical analysis, and related software development
- Good programming skills
- Coursework in introductory chemistry and experience with numerical methods for flow in porous media and/or reactive transport
- Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, with good collaborative skills
- Proficiency in both written and oral English
- A 3-year PhD Research Fellowship with the possibility of a 4th year
- Compulsory work (e.g., teaching responsibilities) distributed over the employment period
- Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund
