Bergen, Vestland, Norway University of Bergen Full time
About the Project

The University of Bergen is seeking a highly motivated PhD Research Fellow to join our team in Experimental Particle Physics. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research group focused on searches for supersymmetry and other signatures of Dark Matter, as well as studies of the CP properties of the Higgs boson.

Research Focus

The research work will be related to the ATLAS experiment at CERN and will be performed within the ATLAS group at the Department. The group is currently involved in searches for supersymmetry and other signatures of Dark Matter, as well as studies of the CP properties of the Higgs boson. The group focuses on final states containing several tau-leptons and takes part in the ATLAS upgrade, with participation in the ITk-Pixels project.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in physics analysis of ATLAS data, including searches for the Higgs boson in decays to two tau-leptons and a photon or study the Higgs decaying to a Z-boson and a photon.
  • Take part in the ITk project, particularly concerning the testing and quality assurance of silicon pixel modules.
Qualifications and Personal Qualities
  • Hold a master's degree or equivalent education in subatomic physics or have submitted a master's thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline.
  • Have experience or competence from subatomic physics.
  • Have experience from one of the large experiments at the LHC or a similar facility (advantageous).
  • Be able to work independently and in a structured manner and demonstrate good collaborative skills.
  • Be proficient in both written and oral English.
  • Have a good command of the Norwegian language (advantageous).
About the PhD Position

The fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with the possibility for a 4th year, consisting of 25% compulsory work (e.g. teaching responsibilities at the department) distributed over the employment period. The 4th year is contingent on the qualifications of the candidate and the teaching needs of the department and will be decided by the head of department upon appointment.

Research Training

As a PhD Research Fellow, you must participate in an approved educational programme for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. The deadline for applying for admission to the PhD programme at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is 2 months after you start your position or after the start of the research project that will lead to the PhD degree.
