About the PhD Position
The University of Bergen invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow position in the Department of Earth Science. The position is available for a fixed-term period of three years, with the possibility of a fourth year, consisting of 25% compulsory work, e.g., teaching responsibilities at the department.
About the Research Project
The PhD project aims to quantify and model the 3D response of active rift evolution to surface processes in the Corinth Rift system, Greece. The project will utilize high-resolution data on the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Corinth Rift to constrain coupled 3D forward tectonic surface process models of an actively evolving rift.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A master's degree or equivalent education in Tectonics/Geodynamics/Geophysics, or a submitted master's thesis for 2 months prior to the application deadline.
- Background and research interest in quantitative earth science are required.
- Training in numerical model use and development or quantitative geological data handling is a requirement.
- Documented basic programming skills in Python, Matlab, or another programming language are required.
- Experience with geodynamic modelling, landscape evolution, and tectonics of rift systems is an advantage.
- Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, demonstrating good collaborative skills, and be proficient in both written and oral English.
About the PhD Research Fellow
The PhD Research Fellow will participate in an approved educational program for a PhD degree within a period of three years. The deadline for applying for admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is two months after starting the position or the research project that will lead to the PhD degree.
We Offer
- A good and professionally stimulating working environment.
- Salary as PhD research fellow (code 1017) in the state salary scale, with further increases in salary according to length of service in the position.
