PhD Research Fellow in Geodynamics and Surface Processes
1 month ago
The University of Bergen is seeking a highly motivated PhD Research Fellow to join our team in the Department of Earth Science. The successful candidate will be part of a research project focused on the 3D response of active rift evolution to surface processes in the Corinth Rift system, Greece.
Research Objectives- Quantify and model the 3D response of active rift evolution to surface processes in the Corinth Rift system.
- Understand how progressive shifting of depocenters towards the present Gulf feedbacks into rift fault formation and migration.
- Investigate how inheritance and surface processes control 3D rift fault growth, linkage, and stratigraphic architecture.
The project will utilize high-resolution data on the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Corinth Rift to constrain coupled 3D forward tectonic surface process models of an actively evolving rift. The research will also involve testing how the evolving 3D extensional fault network is affected by short and longer-term changes in climate-driven erosional efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements- Master's degree in Tectonics/Geodynamics/Geophysics or equivalent education.
- Background and research interest in quantitative earth science.
- Training in numerical model use and development or quantitative approach to geological data handling.
- Documented basic programming skills in Python, Matlab, or another programming language.
- Experience with geodynamic and landscape evolution modeling is an advantage.
- A 3-year PhD research fellowship with the possibility of a 4th year.
- A salary as PhD research fellow (code 1017) in the state salary scale.
- Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
- Good welfare benefits.
