Metal Sourcing & Trading (MST) is an integral part of Hydro Aluminium Metal, responsible for trading & hedging operations on the London Metal Exchange as well as physical ingot sourcing. Market analysis in MST is responsible for market intelligence and research of the aluminium market.

Hydro is active along the whole aluminium value chain and recycling is a priority growth area for us. To grow our footprint and responsibilities, we are looking for a motivated and curious scrap market analyst to support in developing our strategic position in scrap procurement and recycling. The position will report to the Head of Market Analysis.

The role

You will be responsible for developing our scrap market analysis framework and intelligence gathering and building our understanding of scrap markets even further. Your tasks will include:

  • Develop models and tools to streamline our analytical work
  • Mapping and analysis of global and regional aluminium scrap markets
  • Produce short- and long-term forecasts for different scrap prices
  • Traveling to make new contacts and learn the market, and participate in scrap market related conferences and events
  • Monitor competitor landscape, and relevant policy and legislative changes
  • Prepare and present analysis results to internal stakeholders including top management and support decision making processes related to recycling
The qualifications we are looking for
  • Master's degree in a quantitative field, e.g. economics, finance, mathematics, analytics, programming and/or technology
  • Minimum 0-3 years of relevant work experience (market/industry analysis, strategy or similar)
  • Analytical skills with proven abilities to research and validate information and sources
  • Solid communication and presentation skills
  • Skilled user of Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in PowerBI and programming tools (i.e. Python/R) is a plus

Additional information

Business travels are expected for this position, primarily within Europe and the US.
