Environmental Sustainability Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The successful candidate will be part of the Energy and Environment Group, which focuses on climate-positive circular communities and sustainable built environments.
Job SummaryThe PhD position is focused on improving existing methods for evaluating the environmental consequences of material-efficient solutions for buildings and infrastructure. The candidate will work on developing and applying quantitative research and model development to relevant case studies.
Key Responsibilities- Advance the modeling of material-efficiency strategies for a more sustainable built environment.
- Develop and document models.
- Analyze geospatially explicit datasets.
- Publish research in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Present results at international conferences.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Natural Science, Industrial Ecology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or similar relevant to the position.
- Meet the requirements for admission to the faculty.
- Strong academic background with an average grade equivalent to B or better.
- Good programming skills in one or several languages.
- Excellent written and oral English language skills.
- Strong analytical skills and capabilities.
- Motivation to work on the given topic.
- Good understanding of fundamentals in mathematics and physics.
- Competence in data processing and parsing, and an ability to work with large datasets.
- Experience with geographical information systems.
- Previous experience with Life Cycle Assessment, Material Flow Analysis, Building Stock Modeling, and/or other environmental sustainability analysis methods is an advantage.

As a PhD candidate, you will be paid from gross NOK per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The period of employment is 3 years or 4 years with 25% teaching duties. Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD program within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD program during the employment period.
