We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced PhD candidate to join our research team at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and international research environment, working on a project focused on CO2 capture and solvent management.

Job Description

The PhD candidate will investigate solvent management technologies in amine-based CO2 capture plants. The project aims to develop technical solutions to control and limit corrosion and degradation, and their impact through process modelling and experimental work. The successful candidate will conduct independent research, collaborate with the project team, and present the results internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews and select solvent management concepts to focus on
  • Simulate and model different designs of absorption-based CO2 capture processes
  • Develop a process model covering solvent degradation and solvent and degradation compound emission
  • Experimentally test selected management technologies
  • Assess and evaluate the results, including simplifications and uncertainties
Requirements
  • Experience in using process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, Aspen Hysys)
  • Knowledge of absorption processes and chemical engineering principles
  • Strong academic background in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in chemical absorption to absorb CO2
  • Experience with preparing and delivering scientific presentations
  • Experimental experience in operating setups for liquid systems
