PhD Researcher in Hybrid Machine Learning

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our research team at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge research project that combines machine learning with physics-based approaches to enhance pore pressure prediction workflows in the oil and gas industry.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on hybrid modelling and machine learning techniques for subsurface pressure prediction
- Develop innovative solutions to improve the accuracy and robustness of subsurface pressure predictions
- Collaborate with other researchers within the project and contribute to the development of new research ideas
- Participate in the PhD training programme of the faculty and comply with the PhD training programme of the faculty
- Master's degree in mathematics and/or cybernetics, computer science, physics, geology, or a related field
- Strong academic background and average grade from the master's degree program, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared with NTNU's grading scale
- Previous experience and practical skills in machine learning, mathematical proficiency, and programming skills in Python and C++
- Strong written and oral English communication abilities
- Machine learning experience and practical skills
- Mathematical proficiency and knowledge of partial differential equations and numerical methods

As a PhD candidate (code 1017) you are normally paid from gross NOK 532 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 3 years. Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.
