Offer Description

We invite applicants for a three- to four-year position as a PhD research fellow at the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Oslo. The position is part of the ERC Advanced Grant project "Health, Cognition, Family, and Employment among Men (HOMME)".

HOMME studies how men's changing family and working lives - two central domains of adult life - influence their health and cognition. Within this project, the successful candidate will be able to develop a research agenda focusing on health effects of men's participation in the family and drivers of the greater diversity in men's fertility and family experiences. The candidate will make use of a rich linkage of register data on the whole Norwegian population and larger health studies, and may include research on how gender roles, parental leave, and traditional values in communities influence men's life outcomes.

The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers with backgrounds in demography, sociology, psychology, economics and health sciences. He or she will work closely with researchers at other institutions, especially the Norwegian Institute of Public Health where the candidate will be offered part-time placement, and there are opportunities for collaboration and exchanges with international project partners in Europe and North America.
