Senior Robotics Controls Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Robotics Controls Engineer to join our team at 1X, a leading innovator in humanoid robot development. As a key member of our Controls Team, you will play a critical role in designing and developing the real-time software stack for our state-of-the-art humanoid robots.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement advanced controls algorithms for humanoid robot balancing, locomotion, and manipulation.
- Design and optimize state estimation algorithms for accurate robot tracking and control.
- Collaborate with the Hardware and Firmware Teams to integrate and calibrate actuators, transmissions, and full-body kinematics.
- Develop and maintain APIs for commanding our robots, ensuring seamless integration with teleoperation and AI engines.
- Work closely with the Production Team to ensure smooth deployment and servicing of our robots in the field.
- Graduate degree in Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in deploying and debugging controls and estimation software on high-DOF robots.
- Strong understanding of rigid body dynamics, linear algebra, and numerical optimization.
- Familiarity with optimization-based whole-body control, EKF-based state estimators, or model predictive control for legged systems.
- Proficiency in C++ and Linux development environments.
- Experience with modern software development practices, source control, and testing methodologies.
- Excellent intuition for how controls software impacts robot behavior.
- Hands-on experience with hardware and software development.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Perseverance and ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
