About the PhD Position
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our computational neuroscience group at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The goal of the position is to complete a doctoral education leading to an obtained doctoral degree.
The research group is led by Soledad Gonzalo Cogno, a computational neuroscience group established at the university. The institute is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and was established as a Centre of Excellence in 2002, 2012, and again in 2023.
The scientific goal of our centre is to understand neural circuits and systems in the cortex and to identify neural-population mechanisms underlying high-level cognitive functions. The research aims to develop computational models to determine the mechanisms by which ultraslow oscillations in the MEC are generated, and how those are organized into periodic sequences.
The successful candidate will be required to complete the coursework mandated by the PhD program in neuroscience at NTNU and present their results at national and international conferences.
Required Selection Criteria
- A background in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related subjects.
- A Master's degree in Neuroscience, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related subjects.
- Meet the requirements for admission to the faculty's doctoral program.
- Strong mathematical background.
- Coding experience.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and written.
Preferred Selection Criteria
- Familiarity with modelling or analysis of large neuronal populations.
- Familiarity with neuroscience.
- Prior work in the field of computational neuroscience.
- Prior productivity, such as publications, abstracts, conference proceedings, or codes.
Personal Characteristics
In the evaluation, emphasis will be placed on education, experience, and personal suitability in relation to the qualifications specified in the advertisement. We will place great emphasis on strong personal initiative, self-motivation, and work ethic, a solution-oriented attitude, ability to solve problems independently, and the ability to work collaboratively to accomplish common research goals.
We Offer
- Excellent opportunities for scientific and personal development in collaboration with skilled co-workers.
- Exciting and stimulating tasks in a strong international academic environment.
- An open and dedicated team.
- Favourable terms in the PhD program.
Salary and Conditions
The PhD candidate will be paid from gross NOK 532,200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. The period of employment is 3 years. Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD program in Neuroscience within three months of employment and that you participate in an organized PhD program during the employment period.
