PhD in Aquatic Nutrition Research

At Nord University, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate the effects of vitamin D on the nutrition, health, and welfare of Atlantic salmon. The successful candidate will join our team in the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture and contribute to optimizing functional nutritional strategies for sustainable aquaculture.
About the PositionThis three-year PhD fellowship will provide an excellent opportunity for a talented researcher to explore the impact of vitamin D and its metabolite calcifediol on mineral nutrition, welfare, bone, and skin health in Atlantic salmon. The project will involve a combination of nutritional trials, molecular biology techniques, histology, and biochemical analyses.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fish nutrition, especially micronutrient nutrition, and very good analytical skills. Practical experience in cell work and a good insight into omics techniques are also essential. A good knowledge of statistical analysis, preferably with R, is considered an advantage.
We expect the successful candidate to be highly motivated, creative, and ambitious, with an excellent academic record and the ability to work with other members of a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on the effects of vitamin D on Atlantic salmon nutrition, health, and welfare.
- Design and implement nutritional trials and experiments.
- Analyze data using statistical methods and interpret results.
- Collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines to achieve project goals.
